This series picks up the theme of joy and love. The first is based on Psalm 133, with its opening of: ‘How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!’Second, David uses John chapter 14 to explain Jesus’ promises to his disciples of his power, his on-going presence (despite his imminent departure) and his peace. Third, David moves onto John chapter 15 to explore the meaning of Jesus’ teaching about being the real vine, and why the disciples must remain in him in order to produce fruit. Fourth comes detail on the fruit of the Spirit, which is different to the gifts of the Spirit and tends to grow slowly, whereas the gifts can come quickly. Finally David presents what he says is the real Lord’s Prayer - that is, the one Jesus prayed in John chapter 17. It is a prayer that he prayed shortly before enduring the shame of the Cross, ‘for the joy set before him’ (Hebrews 12:2)
