Today the phrase ’the tabernacle of David’ is spoken and sung all over the world. Yet it only occurs twice in the Bible, once in each Testament; and the New (Acts 15 v 16) is a quotation of the Old (Amos 9 v 11). So why has it become so popular and are we sure we understand what it means? It is part of a prophecy and we need to ask whether the prediction has already been fulfilled in the past, is being fulfilled in the present or is yet to be fulfilled in the future. What aspect of King David’s time did God promise to ’rebuild’? Was it Davidic style of worship or something else?
